Shravana Masam 2026: Dates, Significance and Rituals of the Holiest Telugu Month

Shravana Masam, one of the most sacred months in the Telugu calendar, is set to begin on August 13, 2026 and continue through September 11, 2026, ending with Shravana Amavasya. Devotees across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana consider this an especially auspicious time for worship, new beginnings and religious observances.

Each day of the month is dedicated to a different deity. Mondays, known as Sravana Somavaram, are devoted to Lord Shiva, with devotees performing abhishekam using water, milk and bael leaves. Tuesdays honour Goddess Gauri through the Mangala Gauri Vratam, especially observed by newly married women praying for marital happiness. Fridays are dedicated to Goddess Mahalakshmi, with the second Friday marking the widely celebrated Varalakshmi Vratam.

The month also features major festivals such as Nagula Panchami, Rakhi Purnima (Raksha Bandhan) and Sri Krishna Janmashtami. In Tirumala, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam observes the special Pavitrotsavam during this period, drawing large numbers of devotees.

Families are encouraged to visit their nearest temple, particularly on Mondays and Fridays, and to confirm exact tithi-based dates with a local panchangam, since observances can shift slightly by a day depending on the region.
